Develop Your Sewing Skills in a Day

£87.50

Ready to take your sewing to the next level, ever wondered what those feet in your sewing box were for? Then this workshop is for you, led by Alison Leese, expert seamstress and owner of Ministry of Craft.

Create a stylish vintage apron jam made in your own choice of fabric (see ‘What to Bring’), packed with techniques designed to build your portfolio of sewing skills and give you the confidence to tackle any sewing project and sewing tool too.

  • Shape your apron with gathering at the front waist and darts at the back waist, invaluable skills used abundantly in dressmaking.
  • Jump on one of our overlockers to finish the exposed raw fabric edges to get a clean and professional appearance.
  • Add super useful pockets in the side seams so you know how to add to any dressmaking project or even existing garments!
  • Use a blind hem foot to create an invisible hem at the back opening, a fantastic time saving technique as an alternative to hand stitching.
  • Make piping and binding from your own fabric then insert the piping into the waistband seam using a piping foot and sew binding around the hem adding design detail and a professional clean finish.
  • Use the amazing walking foot designed to tackle tricky fabrics and bulky layers to attach the waistband to the apron and finish off using a buttonhole foot to make a one-step automatic buttonhole and a button foot to sew on a button.

Could we possibly fit any more skills and tools into one project in one day?

Leave knowing lots of new techniques and with a gorgeous apron!

  • 50cm of fabric for the apron skirt and piping – If your waist size is 90cm or more choose a wider width fabric (approx. 150cm rather than the narrower width of 115cm). Please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
